The Karem Classics is our classic car unit. We meet on the 3rd Monday of each month in the patio. Membership dues are $20 and requirements are being a Karem noble in good standing and owning a classic vehicle. Our ladies not only attend all our functions, but they are an essential element in our unit. The Classics host the Karem Classics car show the last Saturday of August every year at the Karem Camp. We donate a portion of the proceeds directly to the Shriners hospital. Most of the proceeds are given to Karem in the form of a project, such as camp ground improvement, (plumbing, paving etc). We have a substantial contribution for the Temple facelift being planned. Some of our members enjoy showing off their cars in parades and we also have yearly back road trips and a very nice Christmas party.

The Director’s Staff serves the Potentate and is one of the primary fundraising and working Units of Karem Shrine. This is for both fraternal (Events that benefit Karem Shrine) and Shriners Children’s™ charitable (Events that benefit Shriners Children’s™ healthcare network) events. Leadership of the Director’s Staff is comprised of the Director, (Appointed by the Potentate each year.) Assistant Director and Treasurer/Secretary. (The Director appoints the other three officers.) We meet in our Unit room the third Thursday of each month.
The Director’s Staff hosts and manages three official events each year:
Love To the Rescue – Charitable Event that benefits Shriners Children’s™ healthcare network
Karem Shriners Sportsman’s Banquet – Fraternal Fundraiser that benefits Karem Shrine
Karem Shrine Annual Easter Egg Hunt – A community service event that benefits local children.
In addition to these events, the Director’s Staff maintains a 2-car train with a real locomotive engine. The train, and Director’s Staff, participate in multiple parades representing Karem Shrine. Each year Staff members attend the Shriners Children’s™ College Classic collegiate baseball tournament, Texas Shrine Association (TSA) Ceremonial and Texas Shrine Directors Association (TSDA) Mid-Winter meeting. This is in addition to Unit parties and fellowship gatherings. We also assist with many other activities on behalf of the Potentate.
Historically, the Director’s Staff oversaw performing the ceremonial for new initiates (Novices) to Karem Shrine, as well as, maintaining the ceremonial equipment. Over the years we have transitioned to other areas of need. Director’s Staff has been fortunate to elevate and promote the Shriner’s mission to a wider audience throughout central Texas and beyond, by way of our events. Like all Shriners, members of the Director’s Staff are hardworking volunteers who believe in a cause greater than us. As hardworking as we are as a Unit, we also like to have FUN along the way.
We are the Karem Shrine Golf Unit! During the spring and summer, we meet every other week at various golf courses for fun, fellowship and golf. Truly sharpening our skills while enjoying the fellowship of our Shrine Brothers.
Twice a year we compete at Texas Shrine Events. Once at the Texas Shrine Golf Association Tournament and again at the Texas Shrine Association golf tournament. Our fundraising is a collaborative effort with the other 12 Shrine Temple throughout Texas to help sponsor a Shriners Patient to represent Texas at the annual PGA Shriners Children’s Open in Las Vegas!
It is worth every penny to see these children with the biggest smiles on their faces!
Motor Escorts primary function is to escort the coffin of Shriners to their final resting place. This is the largest Unit within Karem and seeing upwards of fifty motorcycles in formation behind a hearse is something to behold. There is no doubt that the Shriner they are escorting is respected and revered.
Motor Escorts ride in parades and compete at Texas Shrine Association (TSA.) They will also escort visiting dignitary, such as the Imperial Potentate.
(The highest leadership postion within Shriners Intenational.)
The Colonel of the Escorts coordinates rides that are just for the fun of it, too. Motor Escort Ladies are often on their Noble’s bikes during parades and on the scheduled rides. A few have their own motorcycles. They’re very active within this Unit.
Motor Escorts host Karem’s annual Casino Night. This fraternal (Benefits Karem Shrine.) event raises funds for the incoming Potentate (President of the Board.) It’s a large undertaking and the Escorts put in many hours and hard work to pull it off. Casino Night is open to the public. Be sure to check our calendar of events. Motor Escorts put the fun in fundraising!
The Karem Brew Crew celebrates craft beer and the art of homebrewing. This unit teaches Nobles how to brew their own beer, Mead, Wines, Soda, tours local breweries, and hosts internal fundraisers to support the Karem Shriners. Brew days are held at the Karem Shrine on a regular basis. If you’re interested in learning how to brew your own beer or maybe come out and share your way of doing so, or just want to enjoy a frosty pint of great beer, the Karem Brew Crew welcomes you!
The Cowboy unit is a reenactment gun fighting unit from the late 1890′ to 1900. We go to festivals and put on gun fight skits and we also do private parties. We have a town that we can put up that consists of a bank, saloon, jail, and undertaker, as well as a 1886 doctor’s buggy. We run the bar at all our dances at the shrine. Our fundraising comes from doing our gun fight shows and the tips we make from running the bar. We help out the other units when they need help, and we always give back to the shrine and other units to help with fundraising. We meet at Karem Shrine the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm and we’re always looking for new members to come join us.

The Karem GunRunners is a unit that consists of Shriners interested in Pistol Shooting and/or Shotgun Shooting sports. The unit organizes shooting events and participates in shooting competitions with other Shrines under TSPGA and TSSSA. Our competitions are usually held during Mid-Winter, TSA, Imperial and Fall Invitational events. Ladies of Shriners are able to compete at most events as well. The GunRunners meet quarterly and often participate in fundraising for Karem Shrine. Practice is essential and we have coaches for competition style pistol shooting as well as shotgun shooting. Provost guard (pistols) is bullseye style shooting off-handed with .22 cal pistols. We have categories for those over the age of 65, two-handed shooting, team and individual shooting. Shotgun Shooting consists of trap, skeet, and sporting clay shooting at competitions. We look forward to meeting and working with all gun enthusiasts. If you are a gun enthusiast, we need to meet! Membership dues are currently $25 a year.
We are a fraternal unit within the Shrine that participates in parades and competes at TSA each year against other Shrine units. We drive miniature Model T cars. The kids love to see us in the parades and like to give us high fives as we drive by.
We are not just a unit, we are family. Our ladies attend practices and parades in support of the Nobles.
We also try to get together all through the year either at a local restaurant or someone’s home just to have a good time and fellowship. So, if you like having fun, then Texas T’s is the unit for you!

The Karem Shriners Legion of Honor Unit is the Veterans unit of the Shrine. The Unit commands the highest degree of respect from all Shriners for their unselfish service in defending the freedoms we take for granted every day. We are a marching unit and we provide the Color Guard for all parades and various other Temple functions. The Legion of Honor unit, whether marching or riding in our Legion Of Honor trailer is always accorded the position of highest honor at the front of all parades, where we lead our nobility in pursuit of honor and integrity for God and our Country.
